About Muleos
Like most successful innovations, Muleos was created out of necessity. One fateful night in early 2006, Muleos founder Michele Hickford was having a party. She wanted to wear her new high-heeled mules with jeans, but the pants kept catching under her heel. “Every time I took a step, my shoes slapped and caught my jeans,” she recalled. “It looked dorky.” With a bit of blind inspiration, Michele borrowed a pair of men’s shoelaces, wrapped them around the shoes, tied a bow, and voila – the first Muelos prototype was born. The next morning, a light bulb went off over Michele’s head. If she needed to solve this problem, there were probably a lot of other women who needed to solve it too. Naturally, the next call she made was to a patent attorney.
Less than twelve months later, Muleos opened its online store with the first collection of ties and straps. Now thanks to Muleos, women from coast-to-coast can wear their favorite backless shoes with trousers, walk around the office without that annoying slap-slap and safely hit the dance floor.

Michele has over 20 years experience in advertising and marketing, both in the US and internationally. She is also an award-winning advertising copywriter in the US and UK, and her bi-weekly online column for eDiets.com called “Love And Other Mistakes” has reached millions of readers around the world. In 2006, Michele released her first book entitled, “Do I Need To Slap You?” She owns “only” 37 pairs of shoes, of which 14 are backless.
